Shravani Mela Inaugurated by Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary at Sultanganj in Bihar

PATNA / SULTANGANJ (MR): The world-famous Shravani Mela 2025 was grandly inaugurated today at the Namami Gange Ghat (Jahaj Ghat) in Sultanganj, Bihar. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary officially opened the event. On this occasion, Deputy CM Vijay Sinha, BJP state president Dr. Dilip Jaiswal, along with other ministers and MLAs, were also present. Samrat Choudhary arrived in Sultanganj at 1:25 PM by helicopter and participated in the inaugural ceremony. Later, he proceeded to Dhorai village in Belhar block of Banka district to inaugurate the Shravani Mahotsav. Vijay Sinha and Dilip Jaiswal also joined the event in Dhorai.

Speaking at the inauguration, Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary said that the grand and devotional opening of the state-sponsored Shravani Mela on the first day of the holy month of Sawan began with chants of “Har Har Mahadev.” He added that the NDA government is committed to providing every possible support and superior facilities to the devotees of Lord Shiva. Throughout the month of Sawan, all necessary services will be available for pilgrims.

At the Dhorai event, Choudhary emphasized that the NDA government will leave no stone unturned in serving the devotees of Baba Bholenath. From Banka to Sultanganj, the entire Kanwariya route has been well-prepared with arrangements for security, healthcare, water, and cleanliness.

With the chants of “Har Har Mahadev” and “Bol Bam,” the month-long mela has transformed areas like Munger, Sultanganj, Banka (Bihar), and Deoghar-Basukinath Dham (Jharkhand) into a divine pilgrimage. The mela will conclude on August 9, which is Raksha Bandhan.

Sawan is considered the most sacred month for devotees of Lord Shiva. During this time, thousands of Kanwariyas collect holy water from the north-flowing Ganga at Sultanganj (Gangadham) and undertake a 105-kilometer barefoot journey to offer it at the Baidyanath Temple in Deoghar (Babadhham). It is considered the world’s largest religious fair, with a continuous procession of devotees clad in saffron for 30 days straight.

Both Bihar and Jharkhand administrations have made comprehensive arrangements for the convenience and safety of Kanwariyas along the entire route from Sultanganj to Deoghar. Multiple departments of the Bihar government are actively involved in managing the event.

The Railways have also initiated special train services for the Shravani Mela. Sultanganj station has been equipped with 40 CCTV cameras, a medical center, emergency ambulances, women and child help desks, fire safety equipment, and high-mast lights. Additionally, the Malda Division has launched special passenger trains between Jamalpur-Sultanganj and Deoghar-Godda, operational until August 10.
