PATNA (MR) : The Bengali New Year, Poila Boishakh, was celebrated with great fervor at the local Rabindra Bhawan, where a spectacular presentation of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s timeless dance-drama Basanta was staged. The performance, organized to mark the occasion, captivated the audience with its vivid portrayal of the beauty and essence of spring.

The artists, led by Trisha and Abhikalpana Kalavriksham along with their troupe, brought Basanta to life on stage. Through live music, soulful singing, and synchronized dance movements, the performers showcased exceptional artistry. Poila Boishakh is not only a celebration of spring’s beauty and exuberance but also symbolizes new beginnings, love, and vitality with the arrival of the Bengali New Year.
The dance-drama depicted the vibrant imagery of spring, including the call of the cuckoo, blooming mango blossoms, palash flowers, cool morning breezes, and blossoming flora. Tagore’s Basanta, a masterpiece centered on the farewell to the king of seasons, spring, intricately weaves the enchanting and captivating aspects of nature through a dialogue between a king and a poet.

Dr. Ranjan Sinha delivered a powerful performance as the poet-narrator, while Joydeep Mukherjee portrayed the king with commanding presence. Trisha’s exceptional expressions and dance added depth and color to the production. The choreography, crafted by renowned danseuse Sudipa Bose, was a highlight of the evening. The music, led by Sanjay Bhattacharya, and vocals by Subroto Banerjee created an enchanting ambiance. Other notable contributions came from Jyoti Prakash Chakraborty, Jaydeep Chongdar, and Narayan Chakraborty. The makeup and costume design by Ashok Kumar Ghosh and Chandana Ghosh enhanced the visual appeal of the performance. The event was a fitting tribute to Tagore’s legacy and the spirit of Poila Boishakh, leaving the audience mesmerized by the celebration of nature, art, and culture.
