Film ‘Bisaahee’ to Challenge Superstition, A Cinematic Step Against Blind Faith; Set for Release on September 25

Patna | Rajesh Thakur : While India continues to make remarkable progress in the field of education, society remains shackled by the chains of superstition. Even today, innocent women are tortured and killed in the name of witchcraft. Bihar’s Purnia recently witnessed a horrifying example, where five members of a family were burnt alive on mere suspicion of witchcraft. Determined to eradicate such blind beliefs, young filmmaker Abhinav Thakur from Bihar has taken the initiative. His upcoming film ‘Bisaahee’ aims to raise awareness against this inhuman practice. The trailer of the film was launched on September 12, while the full release is scheduled for September 25.

Result of Deep Research : Hailing from Bakhri village in Begusarai and now established in Mumbai, Thakur has worked extensively to portray on screen the agony of women victimized under the guise of superstition. He revealed that the issue is not confined to Bihar but is also widespread in states like Jharkhand, Odisha, Gujarat, and Rajasthan. For three years, he conducted research before making the film, and found that the practice is most prevalent among tribal and marginalized communities, where illiteracy and blind faith act as major catalysts.

Strong Performances by Cast : ‘Bisaahee’ stars Ravi Sahu in the lead role, known for his earlier performance in the web series ‘Thukra Ke Mera Pyar.’ In this film, his character carries a deeply emotional tone. The cast also includes Ram Sujan Singh, Pooja Agarwal, Indu Prasad, Chahana Patel, Hardik Solanki, and Pooja Rawal, who have all put in dedicated efforts to bring alive this sensitive subject. The film was shot across Gujarat, Mumbai, and Rajasthan, and has a runtime of 1 hour 45 minutes.

Not the First Socially Relevant Film : ‘Bisaahee’ is not Abhinav Thakur’s first venture into socially conscious cinema. Earlier, he directed ‘The Lipstick Boy,’ a film that drew attention to Bihar’s traditional folk dance ‘Launda Naach.’ The project gained significant attention as Amitabh Bachchan lent his voice to it. Though Thakur also made ‘Ye Suhaagrat Impossible’ in 2019, it was ‘The Lipstick Boy’ that brought him name and fame, and for which he was honored by the Bihar government in 2023. Through ‘Bisaahee.’ Thakur seeks to start a conversation on superstition and social evils that continue to claim innocent lives. By blending research with emotional storytelling, he hopes the film will not just entertain but also inspire awareness and change.
