PATNA (MR) : Water For People India, under its flagship Guardians of Groundwater Campaign, in collaboration with the Development Management Institute (DMI), Patna, organized a student awareness program titled ‘Yuva Ki Lehar’ at the Meeting Mind Hall, DMI, on Thursday. The program began with the screening of a special promo video by noted filmmaker and campaign brand ambassador Imtiaz Ali, who appealed to youth across the country to join the movement and become ‘Guardians of Groundwater.’
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Lalit Mohan Sharma, Principal Scientist at SM Sehgal Foundation, engaged students in a discussion on the growing groundwater crisis, its links with climate change, and the importance of sustainable management of water resources. DMI faculty members Prof. Gaurav Mishra and Prof. Geetika Mishra, along with Water For People representatives Vivek Sharan, Safdar Ali, and Faiyaz Iqbal, also took part in the event. Students of the Development Management program actively participated in the dialogue, brainstormed solutions, and pledged to conserve water and act as change-makers in their communities.

Speakers highlighted that groundwater is India’s ‘invisible lifeline,’ supporting both drinking water and agriculture, but is under severe stress due to over-extraction, rapid urbanization, and climate variability. They stressed that involving youth is key to reversing this trend and building a water-secure future. ‘Yuva Ki Lehar’ is part of a series of youth engagement initiatives being rolled out nationwide under the Guardians of Groundwater Campaign. The program aims to empower young leaders to spread awareness, influence peers, and promote innovative solutions for water conservation.
